Progression

Planning:

Before we could start building our very first prototype, we needed to draw out our vision.

Since it was only our first prototype, we had only three requirements for the chair:

  • Withstand up to 200 pounds <200 lbs
  • Stabilize so that if the user moves, it does not budge
  • Table strong enough to hold up at least a laptop

Building:

The development of the first prototype of CCAT.

We broke it up into four steps:

  1. Base-build a stable base that can withhold up to 200 pounds.
  2. Back-build a back of the chair, where it can be used to support the person when they are sat
  3. Table-build a table that attached to the chair, and make the table moveable so that it can be moved in and out the way
  4. Privacy-Make the table itself be able to fold up to give the user the privacy that they will need

At first we did not plan for the table to be a privacy divider, however the swivel made the pipe stand up and we decided it would be clever if we could protect the privacy of others with this method.

We filmed a demonstration of the first prototype to show the purpose of it.

Improvements:

After building our first prototype and testing it out, we realized that there were a lot of improvements that we needed to make.

Below is a digital version of our prototype made on Fusion360.

Final Touches:

Below is the additions we have made onto our first prototype.
